Lakedown Brewing Co - February Discovery Brewery

Lakedown Brewing Co - Founded by a rock legend!

Nestled in the heart of East Sussex, England, Lakedown is more than just another microbrewery. It’s a testament to family, passion, and a love for great beer. Founded in 2020, this independent brewery quickly made a name for itself by combining rich family roots with an easygoing approach to craft brewing.

A Family Affair

The story of Lakedown Brewing Co begins on a family farm in East Sussex. The farm was originally designed as a peaceful retreat by rock legend Roger Daltrey, the lead singer of The Who. It was here that Roger’s son, Jamie Daltrey, and his brothers-in-law Christopher Rule and Des Murphy came up with the idea to start a brewery, inspired by the natural beauty of the area and their shared love for quality beer.

The family wanted to create something unique: a brewery that produced beers that were easy to drink and perfect for enjoying in the countryside. From the beginning, their goal was to craft beers that were sessionable, not overly complex or high in alcohol, making them ideal for enjoying over a long, relaxed afternoon.

Lakedown Brewing Co sits on a family farm in Burwash, East Sussex, set amidst the rolling hills of the Wealden countryside. The farm itself belongs to Roger Daltrey, and has long been a place of calm and countryside pursuits rather than rock‑and‑roll chaos.

The brewery’s taproom is located in the old Fisherman’s Lodge at the fishery, offering visitors a unique lakeside setting to enjoy Lakedown beers. Here, guests can sit outdoors overlooking the water or indoors with views across the landscape, giving a real sense of place and connection with the surroundings.

Whether people come to cast a line at the fishery or simply sip a beer with friends, the combination of calm countryside and waterside views makes the site a standout part of the Lakedown experience.

What’s on Tap?

Today, Lakedown Brewing Co offers a variety of beers, ranging from lagers and pale ales to more experimental brews. Each beer is brewed with the same attention to detail, using the best ingredients and methods. Their range is designed to appeal to both seasoned beer lovers and newcomers alike, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
